Friends of Jamaica Pond
Founded 1983
Friends of Jamaica Pond is a volunteer-led group of neighbors and advocates who are passionate about protecting and celebrating one of Boston’s most beloved natural spaces. We believe that community-led stewardship is essential to preserving the Pond’s ecological health and public value for generations to come.
Our Structure
Steering Committee: The steering committee is our governing body and includes a smaller group of dedicated individuals.
Community Service Care (CSC) Partnership: FoJP partners with CSC which acts as our fiscal agent and provides necessary non-profit infrastructure.
Members: And most importantly, our general members! We hope that everyone who has ever visited the area considers themselves a Friend of Jamaica Pond!
If you are interested in becoming a member or a part of the steering committee, reach out here!
What Do We Do?
Promote equitable access to Jamaica Pond Park for all community members
Advocate for sustainable land use and conservation policies.
Engage the public through nature walks, workshops, and school partnerships
Uphold the ideals of Frederick Law Olmsted by stewarding Jamaica Pond as a democratic, restorative public space—adapting his 19th-century vision to meet the environmental and social challenges of the 21st century
Collaborate with city agencies and build coalitions with other local groups to enhance the park’s ecology, safety, and accessibility
